The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward executive committee in Ayetoro/lluagba Ward 1 has suspended Dino Melaye, a member of the party, over allegations of anti-party activities.
The suspension was announced in a statement by the PDP ward chairman, Abayomi Osamika, and secretary, Yodson Dayo, on Friday in Lokoja.
According to the statement, Melaye’s suspension is due to his alleged misconduct, which has brought embarrassment and disrepute to the party.
The ward executive committee said Melaye’s continued membership is no longer tenable.
The statement said the disciplinary committee set up to investigate alleged anti-party activities against Melaye submitted its report, which was reviewed by the ward executive committee on Thursday, September 12.
The report found Melaye guilty of misconduct and anti-party activities.
The party executives said Melaye failed to honour an invitation to appear before the disciplinary committee on August 20, 2024, to answer to allegations of misconduct and anti-party activities.
This, they said, is a gross disrespect to the party and its leadership.
The ward executive committee said the suspension is in line with Article 59(1) of the PDP Constitution, which allows the ward executive committee to take disciplinary measures against Melaye.
Abayomi Osamika, PDP ward chairman, said:
“Senator Dino Melaye’s conduct has brought embarrassment and disrepute to the party, and his continued membership is no longer tenable.”
Yodson Dayo, PDP secretary, added: “We have tried to reach out to him, but he has failed to respond. His actions are in clear violation of the PDP Constitution and the principles of party discipline.”
