The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man for the alleged murder of his neighbor’s 4-year-old daughter, who was found dead in her sleep.
According to DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the police spokesman, the incident occurred on August 18 in Nsukka Local Government Area.
The suspect, who resides in the same compound as the victim’s family, allegedly slit the child’s throat with a knife.
He also attempted to attack other neighbors before targeting the child.
The police recovered a knife, suspected hemp, and a charm from the suspect.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, a member of the Vikings Confraternity, acted alone but claimed to be under the influence of substances.
He also confessed to a previous murder in 2022.
The suspect will be arraigned and prosecuted once investigations are complete.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, condemned the act as “barbaric and unthinkable” and assured the victim’s family of swift justice.
He directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police to expedite the investigation and prosecution of the case.
