On November 7 in Duluth Minnesota, three adults and two minors were found dead across two homes.
The Duluth Police Department believes the incident to be a quadruple murder-suicide.
According to authorities, the carnage began when officers responded to a call at a residence on Tacony Street, where they discovered the bodies of Erin Abramson, 47, and her 15-year-old son Jacob Nephew, both victims of gunshot wounds.
The primary suspect, Anthony Nephew, 46, was swiftly identified as Abramson’s ex-partner and Jacob’s father. Police surveillance was set up at Anthony’s home, located on West 6th Street, approximately one mile from the initial crime scene.
During a press conference on November 8, Duluth Police Chief Mike Ceynowa revealed that police utilized a drone to enter the second home, where they found the bodies of Kathryn Nephew, 45, Anthony’s ex-wife, and their 7-year-old son Oliver Nephew. Both victims succumbed to gunshot wounds.
Anthony’s lifeless body was also discovered at the scene, with evidence suggesting a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Chief Ceynowa disclosed that Anthony had a history of mental health issues and previous run-ins with law enforcement at his West 6th Street residence. Investigators continue to analyze cell phone data to determine the timeline of the shootings.
“This is a senseless and tragic event,” Chief Ceynowa said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and loved ones of the four victims. We also extend our condolences to the Duluth and Superior communities.”
The police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, and the investigation remains ongoing.
