Vice President Kashim Shettima has announced that the federal government has approved N108 billion to support the 36 states and Abuja in addressing flooding and other natural disasters.
This commitment was made during a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
President Bola Tinubu approved the release of N3 billion to each state to tackle natural disasters such as flooding and environmental challenges.
This intervention aims to give subnational governments a sense of belonging and address the devastating effects of flooding and other disasters.
Vice President Shettima described the recent flooding in Maiduguri, following the Alau dam collapse in Borno, as a national calamity that affects not just the state but the entire country.
He emphasized that flooding incidents have affected almost every part of the nation, from Bayelsa to Sokoto.
With President Tinubu’s zeal and willingness, Vice President Shettima assured that the issue of flooding and other challenges in the states would soon be addressed.
He commended the speaker for his leadership in the National Assembly and emphasized the importance of a harmonious relationship among the executive, legislature, and judiciary to sustain democracy in Nigeria.
Speaker Abbas assured that the National Assembly would provide support for the affected communities, demonstrating the federal government’s commitment to mitigating the effects of flooding and natural disasters.
