The management of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, is still reeling in shock and disappointment following the arrest of one of its students, Ayomide Adeleye, a 200-level Philosophy student.
The reason for his arrest? He’s the prime suspect in the abduction and murder of Christianah Idowu, a 300-level student of Pure and Applied Botany from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
According to reports, Adeleye allegedly abducted Idowu on August 19 in Ikorodu, collected a ransom of N350,000, and then went on to kill her, burying her body in a shallow grave.
The university can’t believe one of their own could be capable of such a heinous crime.
In a statement released on Saturday, the university’s management expressed their deep concern and condemnation of the alleged crime.Â
They emphasized that the institution has always maintained a zero-tolerance policy towards violence and criminal behavior.
The statement read,
“We’re shocked and disturbed by the news of Adeleye’s arrest, especially given the circumstances surrounding his connection to the crime.
Our university is known for its peaceful atmosphere, academic excellence, and cult-free activities, so this news is particularly troubling.”
The management has decided not to comment further on the ongoing investigation, leaving it to the police and the courts to handle.
They urged everyone to respect the investigation and allow the justice system to run its course.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, has extended his condolences to the victim’s family and the entire university community, especially the students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, over this tragic incident. He prayed for God to grant the family the strength to bear their loss.
