In an address at Howard University in Washington D.C., Vice President Kamala Harris acknowledged her loss in the 2024 U.S. presidential election to Donald Trump, urging her supporters to accept the result.
“We must accept the results of this election,” she emphasized.
Harris conveyed her pride in her campaign, stating, “I am so proud of the race we ran and the way we ran it.” She acknowledged the mixed emotions of her supporters, reassuring them, “It’s going to be okay… Sometimes the fight takes a while. That doesn’t mean we won’t win.”
Harris vowed to facilitate a peaceful transition of power, saying,
“I told him we will help him and his team with his transition. And we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power.”
During her speech, Harris expressed gratitude to President Joe Biden, her running mate Tim Walz, and other key figures who supported her campaign. Biden reciprocated with a statement, praising Harris as a “tremendous partner and public servant full of integrity, courage, and character.”
Harris said, “While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign… The fight for freedom, opportunity, fairness, and dignity of all people.”
As she concluded her remarks, Harris left her supporters with a message of hope and resilience: “Don’t ever give up. Do not despair.”
