Security operatives in Katsina State have apprehended Sanusi Bature, a man accused of collaborating with bandits to orchestrate the abduction of over 50 residents from Shirgi community.
The suspect, a resident of Tsabawa village, was taken into custody by the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (CWC), Batsari Command, and paraded before the public on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
In a video released by the CWC, Bature openly admitted his involvement in the criminal activities, disclosing that he was compensated with ₦250,000 for his role as an informant. He confessed to providing critical intelligence to the bandits, enabling them to evade law enforcement and execute their operations without interference.
“My name is Sanusi Bature. I am from Tsabawa village,” he said during the interrogation. “I served as an informant to the bandits. They used to call me on the phone to ask if the area was secure because of the presence of security agencies.”
Bature elaborated on how he assisted the bandits by advising them on the movement of security personnel. He confirmed that his guidance helped the criminal group plan their attacks with precision and avoid detection by the authorities.
Bature recounted the events of the Shirgi community attack, where over 50 individuals were abducted.
“When they invaded the Shirgi community, more than 50 people were abducted, and I was given ₦250,000 as my share. In my village, Tsabawa, seven people were taken, but fortunately, those victims were later rescued,” he explained.
The suspect further revealed that the bandits maintained contact with him, even using him to receive his portion of ransoms collected from the abductees’ families.
The Katsina State Community Watch Corps confirmed that Bature confessed to all the allegations leveled against him during questioning.
