The Federal Government of Nigeria has given the green light to the Kogi State Government to build an international airport in Zariagi. This community has an existing airstrip.

This approval was conveyed in a letter dated October 9, 2024, from the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
According to Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, the airport will serve 10 neighboring states and alleviate traffic congestion on the Lokoja-Abuja road, as well as reduce pressure on Abuja’s International Airpor.
The Ododo Administration considers this project a top priority, leveraging Kogi State’s central location to tap into the aviation service market.
“The project will not only boost the economy of the State, it will also create jobs and bring the potentials of the state to the global scene,” Fanwo stated.
He emphasized the Governor’s commitment to hiring industry experts to ensure the project’s success.
The airport will also have cargo capacity, a key focus area for the project.
