19-year-old Aliyu Yaro was arrested for allegedly killing his three-day-old baby boy in Adamawa State.
The Adamawa State Police Command took Yaro into custody on Friday, following a report by his girlfriend, Safiya, who accused him of murdering their infant son just three days after birth.
According to CSP Suleiman Nguroji, spokesperson for the police command, Yaro confessed to the crime during interrogation and even led the authorities to the burial site where the baby’s remains were exhumed.
Yaro, a resident of Kwacham Ward in Mubi North Local Government Area, revealed that he had impregnated Safiya and after the baby’s delivery, she urged him to take responsibility for their child.
Yaro recounted how he visited Safiya’s house at night, sent her on an errand to fetch water, and then took the infant. He admitted to burying the baby around 9:00 p.m. at Girpata, Mubi.
The Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, has expressed concern over the incident and ordered a thorough investigation and prosecution by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
