Mojisola Meranda Makes History as Lagos Assembly’s First Female Speaker

Lagos State House of Assembly made history on Monday by swearing in its first female Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.
This follows the impeachment of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, during a plenary session.
Obasa’s removal was due to allegations of abuse of office and gross misconduct.
Meranda, who represents the Apapa 1 state constituency, took her oath of office, pledging her commitment to the Constitution and her duties as Speaker. “I affirm that I will be faithful as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly; that I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully, and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Meranda vowed.
