An incident occurred at Niagara Falls on Monday, October 28, resulting in the loss of three lives. Chianti Means, a 33-year-old mother from New York, and her two children, Roman Rossman (9 years old) and Mecca Means (5 months old), tragically passed away after apparently intentionally crossing a safety guard rail and falling into the falls.
According to the NYPD, the investigation has determined that the incident was “intentional in nature.”
New York State Trooper James O’Callaghan stated, “It’s not something where they just stumbled in… Based on the information we have, we do know it was an intentional act, but the reason why is tougher to answer.”
The incident took place around 9 p.m. on Luna Island, attached to Goat Island. Police attempted a search and rescue operation but unfortunately were unable to save the family.
Family members have been informed and are cooperating with the investigation, which aims to uncover the motivations behind the apparent suicide.
Authorities have discovered social media posts allegedly written by Chianti Means, expressing her desire to rekindle a romantic relationship with her daughter’s father.
In one post, Means wrote, “Everyone please leave me alone I’m in love with my daughter’s father. I want my family back. Respectfully [I don’t care] what I said about him before or what anyone else thinks.” Another post added, “I wish someone would love me because the man that’s supposed to does not.”
Trooper O’Callaghan revealed that authorities have interviewed witnesses, and their accounts are “alarming.” The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to retrieve the bodies of the deceased.
