NiMet Predicts Thunderstorms Across Nigeria For Three Days


The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting thunderstorms and rainfall across Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday.

According to the agency’s outlook released on Saturday, the northern region can expect thunderstorms in the morning hours on Sunday, specifically in Borno, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Gombe States.

As the day progresses, thunderstorms are expected to spread to most parts of the region during the afternoon and evening hours.

According to NiMet’s weather forecast, the North Central region can expect thunderstorms with rain in the morning hours on Sunday in areas such as the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau States.

On Monday, morning thunderstorms are expected in parts of Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, Yobe, and Jigawa States, with thunderstorms spreading to the northern region later in the day.

Additionally, NiMet predicts morning thunderstorms with rain in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara States, with thunderstorms expected in the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, and Niger States later in the day.

Cloudy skies are expected over southern states, with intermittent rain showers anticipated in most parts of the region during the afternoon and evening hours.

On Tuesday, the northern region can expect morning thunderstorms in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna States, followed by cloudy skies later in the day.

In the North Central region, morning thunderstorms with rain are expected in parts of Niger and Kwara States, while afternoon and evening thunderstorms with rain are anticipated in parts of Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue States.

The southern region can expect intermittent rain throughout the day.

Residents are advised to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high risk of urban flooding in major cities caused by heavy downpours, and to be aware of strong winds that may precede rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur.
