Adeyinka Adeleke, the All Progressives Congress (APC) councillorship candidate for Abeokuta South Local Government Ward 15, was brutally murdered by suspected gunmen in the Jide Jones area of Abeokuta South Local Government on Saturday afternoon.
The assailants arrived in a tinted car, shooting sporadically, and attacked Adeleke, leaving him in a pool of blood.
An eyewitness described the chaotic scene, stating, “The gunmen came in a tinted car, shot him, and hit him with stones till he died. There was tension in the area as people were scampering for safety”.
Another source revealed that the attackers smashed Adeleke’s head after shooting him at close range, ensuring his death.
Adeleke was not only a councillorship candidate but also a transport union worker in the Panseke area of Abeokuta.
The incident occurred around 2 pm, catching everyone off guard, with residents locking up their shops and the area tense with uncertainty about whether it was a cultist attack.
A senior police officer confirmed the incident, stating that Adeleke’s family took his body for burial.
However, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, had not responded to messages as of the time of filing this report.
