Police Inspector Ozonwanji Joseph has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and remanded in prison for the murder of popular Ogene musician, Chikezie Okezie Nwamba, also known as Igbo-Jah.
The Enugu State Police Command concluded the orderly room trial of Inspector Joseph, finding him culpable and recommending his dismissal and prosecution.
According to DSP Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police approved the trial recommendations, leading to Joseph’s dismissal and arraignment at the Enugu East Magistrate Court for murder.
Chief Magistrate Ngozi Edeani ordered Joseph’s remand at the Enugu Correctional Custodial Centre and transmitted the case file to the Attorney General of Enugu State for further action. The trial has been adjourned to November 12, 2024.
Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, extended condolences to the deceased’s family and associates, expressing gratitude for public support. He reassured that the Nigeria Police Force will hold erring officers accountable for their actions under his leadership.
For context, on October 25, 2024, Inspector Joseph shot Igbo-Jah dead with an AK-47 rifle at the Anti-Cultism Police Squad base in Enugu.
