The woman who accused Jay-Z and Diddy of rape has come out to speak for the first time but some of her statements are not adding up.
The lady, who has chosen to remain anonymous by filing as Jane Doe, has come forward with allegations of rape against renowned rappers Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs. The alleged incident occurred in 2000, when the woman was just 13 years old, at an after-party following the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in New York City.
According to the woman’s account, she snuck out of her home in Rochester, New York, to attend the VMAs, which was her lifelong dream. She managed to gain entry to the event by chatting with limo drivers outside Radio City Music Hall. One of the drivers, who claimed to work for Diddy, told her to return later, and that he would take her to an after-party.
The woman alleges that she was taken to a large white residence with a gated U-shaped driveway, where she met various celebrities, including Fred Durst and Benji Madden. After accepting a drink from a waitress, she began to feel woozy and disoriented. She claims that she was then led to an empty room with a bed, where Diddy, Jay-Z, and a woman entered. The woman alleges that both Diddy and Jay-Z raped her, with Jay-Z holding her down and covering her mouth.
The woman’s father, who has also spoken to NBC News, disputes his daughter’s account of him picking her up after the alleged assault. He claims that he does not recall the incident and that it would have been a five-hour drive from their home to pick her up.
The woman, however, stands by her claim, suggesting that her father may have misremembered due to personal issues he was experiencing at the time.
Her story holds several inconsistencies. For instance, she claimed to have spoken with Benji Madden at the after-party, but a representative for Madden confirmed that neither Benji nor his brother Joel attended the 2000 VMAs. The woman has acknowledged making mistakes in her identification of individuals present at the after-party.
Professional images reviewed by NBC News show Diddy and Jay-Z attending a VMAs after-party at the Lotus nightclub in New York City. However, the woman’s description of the house where the alleged assault occurred does not match the location of the Lotus nightclub.
Jay-Z has denied the allegations, calling them “idiotic” and “heinous in nature.” His attorney, Alex Spiro, has stated that the lawsuit is “frivolous” and has asked the court to dismiss it.
The woman’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, has acknowledged the inconsistencies in his client’s account but maintains that she is telling the truth. He has stated that they will continue to vet her claims and collect corroborating data.
