The Sokoto State Hisbah Board has seized over 200 cartons of alcoholic drinks at the Sokoto Central Motor Park.
Usman Jatau, the state Hisbah Commander, announced this during a press conference at the Hisbah office in Sokoto on Wednesday.
Commander Jatau revealed that the seized items were suspected to be alcoholic drinks, and despite the passage of time, no one has come forward to claim ownership.
As a result, the Hisbah Board will consult with the State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General to determine the next course of action regarding the confiscated drinks.
During his address, Commander Jatau outlined the rules and regulations guiding residents’ conduct in the state.
He said that these guidelines were not intended to target anyone or cause chaos but rather serve as guiding principles for daily activities.
Jatau appealed to residents, saying, “Let me appeal to the people to fear Allah (SWT) in all our dealings and avoid all prohibited activities, such as mingling between males and females.”
He spoke about the importance of adhering to Islamic law in various aspects of life, including dress codes, social interactions, and ceremonies. Commander Jatau warned against taking advantage of any place or hideout for immoral acts, assaulting or cheating fellow Muslims, and selling or distributing illicit substances or drugs at public gatherings or events.
