The Sokoto State Police Command has apprehended several suspects in connection with the violent protest that erupted in Sabon Birni, the headquarters of Sabon Birni LGA, following the death of the abducted District Head, Isa Muhammad Bawa.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s deputy public relations officer, ASP Isah Mohammed, in Sokoto, the protest saw some miscreants setting fire to various private and public properties, including 25 housing units built by the state government to accommodate officials serving in the area.
The statement assured that the Command would conduct a thorough investigation to identify and hold accountable the individuals and groups responsible for the protest and destruction of property in the area.
“The police will not stand idly by while disgruntled individuals disrupt public peace under the guise of protest. Anyone found to be involved in the protest will face the full force of the law.”
The statement noted that a team of mobile police personnel has been deployed to the area to maintain peace, and law-abiding citizens are encouraged to go about their daily activities without fear, as the police are there to protect them.
However, the Command warned the public against taking matters into their own hands, especially in situations that require judicial intervention.
