A tragic incident occurred at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Dansadau in Katsina State, where a naval officer allegedly opened fire, killing a fellow serviceman.
This happened during Operation FANSAN YAMMA around 3:12 a.m. on Friday morning.
Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defense Media Operations, confirmed the incident, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the soldier’s death.
Leading Seaman Akila A., the accused officer, has been arrested, disarmed, and detained
pending further investigation. According to Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defense Media Operations, the case will undergo preliminary investigation to determine sufficient grounds for trial. Following this investigation, the case will be presented before a standing court martial, which handles incidents involving military personnel.
“The administrative process of notifying the deceased’s family is underway, which is why we have not yet released the name to the public. It will, however, be disclosed soon,” Buba said.
In a similar incident, a military commander was killed in an ambush in Katsina State, specifically in the Danmusa local government area. The commander, a major, was ambushed at Malali village in Kankara local government area while responding to a call for reinforcement.
