Three students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, lost their lives in a devastating road crash on Friday, December 20, 2024. The accident occurred along the Ilisan-Ago-Iwoye Road at approximately 3:30 pm.
According to a statement released by the Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Omolola Odutola, the students were passengers in a commercial Opel Safira vehicle with the license plate Lagos AAA-126HE. The driver, Adekunkle Adebiyi, residing at 5 Sunmibare Street, Awa Ijebu, was speeding towards Ilisan from the Ago Iwoye direction when he lost control.
Odutola stated, “A fatal motor accident occurred on December 20, 2024, at about 3:30 pm along the Ilisan-Ago Iwoye Road. The incident involved a commercial Opel Safira…driven by one Adekunkle Adebiyi…The Opel was traveling at high speed towards Ilisan from the Ago Iwoye direction when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to flip into the bushes.”
One male passenger, whose identity has not been confirmed but is believed to be an OOU student, died at the scene. His body was taken to the General Hospital Ijebu Ode mortuary.
Two female students from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Dada Oluwanifesimi, 18, a sophomore in Mass Communication, and Miracle Ogo Oluwa Daniel, 19, a junior, were rushed to Love and Care Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.
Odutola added that two other students sustained critical injuries and were taken to the OOU Medical Centre for treatment. The accident vehicle was recovered and is being stored safely at the police station.
