Donald Trump arrived at a campaign rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin, in a garbage truck.
The entrance was a direct response to President Joe Biden’s recent comment implying that Trump’s supporters are “garbage”. Trump was quick to capitalize on the remark, using it to fuel his rally.
As Trump stepped out of the garbage truck, which bore his name, he asked reporters, “How do you like my garbage truck? This is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden.”
The controversy began when a comedian at a Trump rally made disparaging remarks about Puerto Rico, calling it a “floating island of garbage.” Biden responded in a late-night call, saying, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.” Although Biden later clarified that his comment was aimed at Trump’s treatment of Latinos, the damage was done.
Trump seized the opportunity to distance himself from the comedian’s remarks while also using them to criticize Biden and Harris. “I don’t know anything about the comedian,” Trump stated. “I don’t know who he is. I’ve never seen him. I heard he made a statement, but it was a statement that he made. He’s a comedian, what can I tell you. I know nothing about him.”
A spokesperson for Trump emphasized that the comedian’s joke does not reflect Trump’s views. However, Trump stopped short of condemning the remarks.
Addressing the crowd, Trump proclaimed, “250 million Americans are not garbage!” He also asserted that Biden’s comments were a result of Kamala Harris’ and Tim Walz’s decision to portray those who don’t support them as “evil or subhuman”. Trump argued that this mindset reveals a deeper hatred for the American people.”
Trump declared, “You can’t lead America if you don’t love Americans. And you can’t be president if you hate the American people. And there’s a lot of hatred there. Kamala Harris is not fit to be president of the United States.”
Trump expressed his affection for Puerto Rico, saying, “I love Puerto Rico and Puerto Rico loves me. I hope you enjoyed this garbage truck. Thank you very much.”
