Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, issued a public apology to renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, on Monday, for his recent derogatory remarks against the senior advocate.
During his appearance before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions, VeryDarkMan clarified that he did not believe Falana was involved in the alleged bribery scandal involving crossdresser Idris Okuneye (Bobrisky), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the Nigeria Correctional Service.
He stated, “Apparently, some individuals are exploiting the situation to target Femi Falana, and for that, I apologize.”
VeryDarkMan expressed disappointment that Falana’s name was mentioned in the audio recording, emphasizing that he initially refused to believe the allegations.
The controversy began when VeryDarkMan shared an audio recording allegedly featuring Bobrisky claiming to have bribed Economic and Financial Crimes Commission officials with N15 million to drop money laundering charges.
Bobrisky also claimed that her “godfather” and the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, facilitated her six-month sentence in a private apartment instead of prison.
In response, VeryDarkMan called for a thorough investigation, denying any intention to defame Falana. However, he also alleged that Falana sought a presidential pardon for Bobrisky in exchange for N10 million.
Falana’s legal team at Falana & Falana’s Chambers promptly denied these claims in a letter dated September 25, 2024, signed by Taiwo E. Olawanle, stating that Falana never discussed any pardon or related matters with Bobrisky.
