Atletico Madrid’s French defender, , has been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury following a head collision during the La Liga derby against Real Madrid.
The 27-year-old centre-back sustained the injury in the final minutes of Sunday’s 1-1 draw at the Metropolitano stadium.
According to Atletico’s official statement, Le Normand underwent a series of tests and specialist assessments, revealing a subdural hematoma. As a result, he will follow established protocols for return to competition.
The injury ruled Le Normand out of Atletico’s Champions League clash against Benfica on Wednesday. Having joined from Real Sociedad this summer, Le Normand has become a key starter for Diego Simeone’s side.
Le Normand won Euro 2024 with Spain in July and joined Atletico from Real Sociedad this summer .
