University of Calabar’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, announced the suspension of Joseph Akpan, Head of the Department of Pharmacology, due to alleged examination score alterations.
Akpan allegedly modified 235 out of 242 examination result scripts, also giving marks to two students who didn’t participate in the exams. Only five scripts remained unaltered.
Prof. Obi stated that Akpan admitted to inflating scores to protect the department’s image, which the management deemed “ridiculous and unacceptable.”
As a result, Akpan has been relieved of his duties as HOD and Coordinator of PHM 311, effective October 8, 2024.
His responsibilities will be reassigned to other qualified lecturers.
“Consequently, the management of the University has directed that he should be relieved of his appointment as HOD and Coordinator of PHM 311, as well as suspended from duty with effect from Oct. 8, 2024.
“Akpan’s official responsibilities are to be reassigned to other qualified lecturers in the department.
Akpan has been directed to stay away from the university unless summoned by relevant committees.
