Vice President Shettima Visits IDPs Camp in Niger, Reaffirms Federal Government’s Commitment

On Friday, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima visited the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Gwada, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Vice President was accompanied on the visit by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, who is also the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, and Minister for Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris (aka Malagi).
The visit was directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to assess the situation and reaffirm the federal government’s commitment to addressing the devastating effects of floods and insecurity challenges in the state.
Shettima explained that the visit was both an assessment tour and a symbolic gesture to show the federal government’s support for the people of Niger State.
“We have come to reaffirm the commitment of the President towards ameliorating the sufferings of our people. We are aware that many lives have been lost, and people have lost their means of livelihoods and property estimated at several millions of Naira,” he said.
The Vice President announced that N3 billion has been released to each state to assist them in addressing flooding issues. He emphasized that a scientific approach and assessment would be done on states like Borno, Niger, Sokoto, Delta, Jigawa, and Bayelsa, which have been severely affected by floods.
Shettima assured that all states would be fully supported, as governance is about the people, and President Tinubu has the interests of the people at heart. “He sleeps with Nigerians in his mind and wakes up with Nigerians in his mind. This is an uppermost support,” he said.
